HEALTH studies student Rafique Patel learned that cannabis can damage your pocket and your health.
Blackburn magistrates heard that police who approached a car driven by Patel could smell the pungent aroma of cannabis.
When they searched the vehicle they found a small quantity in a plastic bag.
Patel, 20, of London Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to possession of the drug. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and must pay £65 compensation.
Basharat Ditta, defending, said Patel was studying for a BSc in Health Studies at the University of Central Lancashire. He had bought the cannabis prior to going on holiday to Tenby and brought a small amount home with him.
"He should know better than most that cannabis can affect your health and perhaps you will show him that it can affect your pocket by ordering him to pay costs," said Mr Ditta.
