A NEW psychological therapy designed to beat depression and anxiety is coming to a doctor's surgery in Blackburn.
The Shadsworth Surgery will be a trial site for the computer package Beating the Blues -- a self-help programme for people suffering emotional problems.
The scheme is funded by the Single Regeneration Budget and will be piloted for twelve months from yesterday.
Dr John McCarron, clinical psychologist and project manager, said: "Beating the Blues is an important advance in tackling depression, providing quicker access to treatment.
"Proven to be effective, it has been widely used in the UK. It will provide much-needed services more quickly."
Anxiety and depression affect one in five people. The programme provides cognitive behaviour therapy via a computer.
