NOT bad. That was as good a weekend in terms of results we've had for some time and we didn't even kick a ball!

Defeat for Derby left them with a maximum possible points haul of 41 and looking hot favourites to join Leicester for the drop.

Not looking a great deal healthier are Ipswich. Their unexpected capitulation at Bolton leaves them in an unenviable position. With games against Arsenal, Manchester United, Middlesbrough and Liverpool to come.

Throw in a defeat for Sunderland and a point for Fulham and all in all a very good weekend. As a result our future is now very much in our own hands which is all we can ask for in the circumstances.

I feel we must still aim for two more wins to make ourselves safe although of course in practice it might take considerably less than that depending upon Ipswich's fate.

Better not to rely on others to slip up though, and what better place to start than against Chelsea tomorrow night while the tide seems to have turned temporarily in our favour?

Results on the field provided a welcome boost for everyone connected with the club.

The downside was that for the second weekend running the club's name was in the tabloid press for the wrong reasons thanks to further allegations concerning the off-field behaviour of club captain Garry Flitcroft.

There is of course a compelling case for saying that what any of the players get up to in their personal lives is entirely their own business.

And none of us are perfect. Far from it. But this sort of ongoing allegation surely can't be beneficial for team spirit or discipline. What sort of message does it send to the stars of the future from the Academy?

The club is bigger than any one individual and I think that is good reason to review the captaincy in the summer.

Back to tomorrow night the outcome will depend largely upon which Rovers team and which Chelsea team turn up on the night. You can't really imagine that Chelsea will put in one of their regular away day no shows with Newcastle and a Champions League spot firmly in their sights.

Also instead of having to watch a lethal striker in JFH we now have to watch a lethal partnership in him and Gudjohnsen.

On the other hand our home form has improved significantly, Matt Jansen and Damien Duff have been on fire recently and I would be surprised if Andrew Cole failed to score upon his return from suspension.

So a great game should be in store. One thing's for certain. We need an absolute minimum of a point to put us an all important three points clear of Ipswich with a significantly better goal difference.

We can do it especially if the crowd maintain the sort of backing and support seen against Southampton.

We ALL have a part to play tomorrow night!
