SOROPTIMIST International members have been counting the pennies after setting up a 'penny mile' in Accrington Arndale Centre.
Lack of space meant much of the 'mile' was in vertical piles but it is hoped the small towers will beat last year's efforts of around £450.
The stunt, manned by 25 volunteers, raised funds for international project Limbs for Life to provide artificial limbs for landmine victims in Afghanistan, Georgia and Angola in conjunction with the Red Cross.
