RESIDENTS in Rossendale could soon be benefitting from a new all-weather sports facility.
And if plans for the complex, to be built at Rossendale United in Dark Lane, Newchurch, get the go ahead up to 20 new jobs could be created in the Valley.
The new multi-activity indoor sports hall, which would include seating for 520 spectators, would provide a welcome facility for sports lovers in the area.
But some people living near the proposed site on land have expressed concern about increased traffic and noise and the danger that the sports hall would be an eyesore. A car park with 107 places is also included within the proposals. The existing football arena already has seating for 600 people and a car park with 65 spaces.
Hareholme councillor Mollie Disley, who lives in Brow Edge, Newchurch, gave a cautious welcome to the proposals. She said: "I think it will be a very welcome facility if it takes some of the young people off the streets and gives them something to do, but I know a lot of people are worried about traffic."
Rossendale Borough Council has recommended the approval of the scheme.
