MANY thanks for your tribute to the Queen Mother with photographs of her from early life to being a senior citizen (LET, April 1).
Older people remember her for her courageous support to her husband George VI, unexpectedly called to the throne and her encouragement during the dark days of the war.
But above all, many of us admire her stand for family values and virtues. Like many Christian parents she knew the sadness of marriage breakdown within the family but never lowered her own standards or agreed that deliberate one-parent families or trial marriages were all right in the sight of God.
These days little respect is shown for our royal family. No-one wears black arm bands or dresses shop windows with photographs draped in black crepe.
So, come one, Lancashire, show some thought for one who upheld the sanctity of marriage and never wavered in her Christian principles.
She put duty and family life before personal desires.
MARY HINDLE, Walton Close, Bacup.
