BLIND and partially-sighted people in Bury are to be given an insight into the latest aids and equipment.
A pioneering mobile unit, run by Action for Blind People, will stop off in the borough this week to open its doors to people interested in or affected by visual impairment.
Staffed by a professional team, the unit carries the latest technology and gadgets to improve daily life for blind and partially-sighted people.
From talking microwaves to easy-to-read watches, staff on the unit will offer practical advice and support.
Bob Welsh, senior mobile co-ordinator, said: "Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you are visually impaired or simply want to know more about eye conditions.
"Visitors can try out a wide range of daily living aids or state-of-the-art computer technology which uses magnification and speech software."
The mobile unit will be at the following locations: Wednesday April 10, Kay Gardens, Bury, 10am - 4pm; Thursday April 11, car park next to Ramsbottom library, Carr Street, Ramsbottom, 10am - noon; Thursday April 11, Prestwich Library car park, Longfield Centre, Prestwich, 2pm - 4pm.
Anyone unable to visit the unit but in need of information can contact Action for Blind People's Information and Advice Service on 020 7635 4800.
In support of the visit, Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted People will host a coffee morning at Ramsbottom Library on Thursday morning (April 11).
