A TEENAGE boy had to be rescued when he became trapped under a tractor in a farmer's field.
Police are investigating reports that the 13-year-old was driving the vehicle, which was pulling a roller, when the accident happened.
The tractor was being driven across a small hillock when it toppled over and landed on its side.
The boy is thought to have been flung from a door. His leg caught underneath.
He was trapped for more than half an hour in the field at Bank House Farm, Hindley, before he could be freed by firefighters.
They used inflated airbags to lift the tractor of the ground.
An air ambulance was sent to the farm, which is close to the Hindley Hall Golf Club, but it was not needed.
Paramedics managed to move the boy to an ambulance, which took him to the Royal Wigan Infirmary.
The incident, which happened at about 4.30pm yesterday, is now being investigated by the Health and Safety Executive.
The teenager was described as "comfortable" in hospital this morning.
