FIVE police officers have appeared in court to deny the manslaughter of a former paratrooper who died in custody.
Christopher Alder, 37, whose sister Janet lives in the Manchester Road area of Burnley, died at Queen's Gardens police station in Hull on April 1, 1998.
Constables Nigel Thomas Dawson, 39, Neil Blakey, 42, Mark Ellerington, 36, and Matthew Barr, 38, and custody sergeant John Andrew Dunn, 40, appeared at Teesside Crown Court in Middlesbrough yesterday to answer charges of manslaughter and misconduct in public office.
All five Humberside officers, who appeared wearing suits and ties, denied both charges.
The officers addresses at an earlier hearing were given as Queen's Gardens police station in Hull.
Mr Alder, 37, a mature student, lived in Dagger Lane, Hull.
