A CALDERSTONES patient who was in and out of mental health care from the age of four died after severe weight loss and dehydration, an inquest heard.
Mark Campbell, 37, was just half the normal weight for a man of his age and height at the time of his death in November last year.
He had been suffering severe mental and behavioural problems, the inquest heard, which included regurgitating his food after meals.
Mr Campbell, from Withington, Manchester, was originally referred to Calderstones hospital in 1981 but was discharged to a community home in Prestwich in 1997.
He remained there for three years until July 2000 when his behaviour deteriorated and he lost three stone in weight.
He was admitted as an emergency patient to Calderstones in August 2001 but the weight loss continued and he was taken to Burnley General Hospital for an operation to fit a feeding tube in his stomach.
He died at the hospital on November 24 weighing just 34 kilos.
Acting Coroner Richard Taylor recorded an open verdict.
