WORKERS at an exhaust manufacturing firm downed tools on Friday for a two day strike.

Up to 250 employees at Nicholsons near Glasson Dock walked out and formed a picket line to protest at pay and conditions.

Workers claim that they are being paid less than other workers in the exhaust industry and have worse conditions.

A TGWU spokesman said that Nicolson's employers had been offered just half of what comparative workers in the industry had been offered.

They also want to secure better working conditions and a redundancy package for employees.

One worker told the Citizen: "Everyone's right behind the strike action and we' re prepared to keep at it."

The company said it was no commenting on the industrial action.
