COMMUNITY minded volunteers spent are cleaning-up Chanters Valley and surrounding area in Atherton.
Chanters' Support Group and Atherton Environmental Project had secured a £2,000 grant from the Mersey Basin Trust to carry out the work. Around 10 volunteers, accompanied by children and local councillors, worked to clean the stream, put up fences, remove rubbish and plant trees.
Atherton ward councillor Sue Loudon said: "It was such a lovely day which made it all the more enjoyable. There was so much community spirit."
A second clean-up is being carried out by the Atherton Environmental Project at Frances Place in Howe Bridge on Saturday. Volunteers, including a group of children, plan to clean the stream and litter-pick around St Michael's estate.
