EVERYTHING is swinging at a playground which used to be a swamp.
Astley councillors John Lea, Charles Rigby and Fred Walker earmarked £17,000 of Wigan's Brighter Borough budget to ensure local yougsters have the play facilities they deserve in the Marsland Green area.
Improved
A new climbing frame and slide, a swings, basketball area, five a-side goalposts, seats and fencing were installed and access and drainage improved.
Delighted Cllr Lea said: "The local children and their parents or carers will all benefit directly. But there is also an indirect benefit to Astley residents as the effect of having good quality play provision feeds into the sense of belonging, responsibility and ownership within the local community."
Development of the Green Avenue/Marklands Road play area has been in conjunction with Wigan Council Leisure and Cultural Services Play Team. The Play Team works to enhance quality play provision and promote the importance and value of play to a child's development.
