SCHOOLS and community groups can have their own gateway to the Commonwealth Games this summer.

To mark July's games in Manchester, Bury is taking delivery of two gateways which local events organisers can use as impressive feature points.

The decorative arches stand 12 feet high and 12 feet wide and bear the Games design and logos, complete with the three standing figures.

Mr Adrian Frost, Bury's Games co-ordinator, said the gateways were available free of charge to any community organisation that wants to use them.

"They would provide an eye-catching addition for schools to have for their summer sports, although they could be used for plenty of other occasions," he said.

"Prestwich Carnival organisers have booked one for their own two-day event, to serve as an assembly point, for photo opportunities and the presentation of prizes.

"And we will be using them for the Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay when it passes through Bury on Tuesday July 23."

The gateways break down into pieces, the largest components being a pair of two-foot diameter and 12-foot long tubes, so they can be carried in a van or on a roof rack.
