This week with COUN CHRIS HOLTOM, Ribble Valley borough and Lancashire county councillor

CHRIS offers two beautiful walks as his favourite places -- one on his doorstep, the other in one of the northernmost reaches of the county.

The further of the two is in the Silverdale area. Here's his description of the three-and-a-half-mile walk: "Take the Silverdale road out of Carnforth and park at Crag Foot. Walk eastwards up through the woods towards Yealand Conyers. Turn north and enjoy the spectacular views across Morecambe Bay, Silverdale, Arnside and beyond. There is also a great view of Leighton Hall below you.

Descend and walk past Leighton Hall and follow the footpath through Leighton Moss Nature Reserve. Return to your car via Silverdale railway station."

He says the walk is "great at any time of the year".

His second walk, of a similar distance, involves leaving his home in Hollowhead Lane, Wilpshire, at the marked sign and taking the footpath across the top of Wilpshire Golf Club -- "arguably the best views down the Ribble Valley".

He said: "Exit from the farm track at Snodworth and continue to York. Take the route above the reservoirs towards Whalley Nab, with superb views of Pendle and towards Burnley.

"Return towards Wilpshire, following either side of the Dean Clough reservoirs."
