LEIGH Centurions' Welsh international front rower Dave Whittle has joined Super League neighbours St Helens on loan for a month.
Former Leigh boss Ian Millward contacted his old club after Saints were hit by a crippling injury pile-up just a week before their Challenge Cup Final showdown with Wigan at Murrayfield.
Although Leigh are in the middle of the National League Cup competition, they were happy to let Whittle go to Knowsley Road just as they did last season when he spent a month with Warrington. In return Leigh are likely to get a Saints player on loan later in the season.
Whittle is expected to get a baptism of fire today when he makes his Saints debut at Bradford.
Leigh have learned that utility back Liam Bretherton will be out for up to three months after dislocating and breaking his wrist at Whitehaven last Sunday.
John Duffy must rest for the next two weeks after being badly concussed in the same game.
