STAN Ternent's first target for tomorrow is to beat Coventry City and then he admitted: "Our fate will be in the lap of the Gods."
The Clarets boss remained both relaxed and upbeat as he looked ahead to a game that will be full of tension.
"We are in the Last Chance Hotel but if you can't enjoy situations like this then you shouldn't be in the job," he said. "It is something to look forward to and I believe we have to win the match to give ourselves a chance of staying in the top six.
"The thing is if we didn't win the game and one of the other teams either drew or lost then we would never forgive ourselves. On the face of it 1-0 won't seem enough but it could be.
"We just have to give ourselves a chance by winning and obviously I would like to see us score quite a few goals.
"All that has gone before does not matter now, this is a one off game, a Cup Final. It doesn't matter if we score in the first minute or the last minute, Brizza's goal last week showed how important each goal is."
It can be guaranteed that every goal from around the country will be greeted with boos or cheers throughout the afternoon and , even if Ternent wanted to shut out news from elsewhere, he knows he couldn't.
"I'll not have a radio by me but I have no doubt the fans will let me know what's happening," he said. "That is normal for the last day of the season and it is a massive weekend for a number of teams.
"But I have no doubt my players will be able to stay focused. This match is the culmination of a lot of hard work this season, we are still in the top six and it is all to play for.
"We know the situation with Millwall, Birmingham, Burnley and Norwich needing to win and if everyone does it will go to the number of goals we and Norwich get. If their goal difference is better we are out of it.
"But it is no good predicting anything, it would just be a great shame for the players if they did not get a second bite at the cherry in the play-offs."
The team that stands in his way is managerless Coventry City but Ternent is in no mood to underestimate their threat.
"We know they have got some very good players, they are a big club that came out of the Premier League last season and whatever happens tomorrow we will finish above them," he said.
And whatever happens, even if it is the nightmare scenario of a last day drop from the top six, Ternent insists that his players have much to be proud of.
"The results before Christmas were fantastic and since then we have done okay although not to the standard before," he said. "I don't know why be it loss of form, injuries, suspensions, other sides bucking up but whatever happens the players have done well."
Ternent knows the team he will start with tomorrow but is playing his cards close to his chest. He has virtually a full squad at his disposal although Irish winger Alan Moore is out through suspension while Ian Cox will not be fit.
The manager has a wealth of big game experience, having been involved in numerous promotions and play-offs throughout his career, but he confessed: "This match is the biggest because it is the next one. The rest is history, those past games are all on my CV.
"It is going to be a nice Sunday afternoon out and we are going to try and give the fans the right result, that is as much as we can do," he concluded.
Hold on to your hats because it promises to be a rollercoaster climax to a rollercoaster season!
