FAULTY wiring in an electrical socket and fuse box caused a small fire in a house in Coniston Avenue, Accrington just after 9am on Saturday.
The fire, which slightly damaged the kitchen of the house, prompted Accrington firefighters to warn householders of the need to use a qualified electrician when carrying out electrical work.
The fire was caused by faulty wiring overheating.
Sub-officer Steve Harrison said: "If householders are going to have any work done, make sure it is done by a qualified electrician, otherwise it could have serious consequences."
The family at the house were alerted to the fire within minutes by a smoke alarm.
