BACUP slumped to a huge defeat in Staffordshire but the scoreline was of little significance following Gary Lloyd's alleged lunge at the referee.

The defender saw red in the 20th minute after a double booking when questioning the referee about a decision.

He was shown a yellow for his initial query but, when referee Mike Shaw booked him, he then apparently swore at the the man in black and was dismissed.

The Salford player went to the dressing room but then came out and went on to the pitch and appeared to lunge at Shaw.

The referee abandoned the game but then came back out after consulting both sides, with Bacup trailing 1-0.

"My teams hearts weren't in it after that," said Bacup boss Brent Peters.

"It was a scrappy stop-start game and they exploited the fact we only had ten men."

Colin Fletcher scored a hat-trick on 30, 70 and 79 minutes. Andy Myatt (47), Andy Brownswood (75) and Mark Maguire (88) scored the goals.
