PEOPLE being helped to reintegrate into society after mental health problems have raised £250 for the Royal British Legion through a tribute to the Queen Mother.
Clients at the Into Work unit at Burnley General Hospital, which aims to boost the confidence of people recovering from mental health problems by providing them with the skills to mix and work in society again, marked the Queen Mother's death by making black ribbon badges.
Nurse in charge Doreen Clegg, who runs the unit with two other members of staff, said: "We make Aids ribbons here as well. We decided to offer to make black ones in aid of one of the Queen Mother's favourite charities -- the Royal British Legion of which she is patron.
"We get the ribbon and pinned it into loops, which people wore on the day of the funeral. It's nice to give something back."
The unit, which caters for 40 people, changed its name from the Industrial Therapy Unit to Into Work after Christmas and now comes under the Lancashire Care NHS Trust -- a new mental health trust which covers Burnley, Blackburn, Chorley, Blackpool and Preston.
The clients' next project is making bunting for the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Anyone interested in buying some -- at £2.50 for a 10-metre length -- can buy it from the unit in the hospital grounds or call the centre for details on 01282 474755.
