POLICE in Prestwich are appealing for help after a Good Samaritan was seriously assaulted when he tried to help a woman at the Metrolink Station on Saturday night.
The 39-year-old local man saw two men harassing a lone woman in the car park at Prestwich station on Rectory Lane shortly before midnight.
But after the man attempted to intervene, one of the thugs threw a bottle at him before he was pushed to the floor and punched and kicked about the head and body.
Both attackers were white and around 17 or 18 years old and police believe they may have left the tram station with the young woman.
The victim was taken to North Manchester General hospital where he was treated for severe bruising and a broken nose.
Anyone who witnessed the assault or saw the three people leave the tram station are asked to contact Whitefield CID on 0161 856 8240 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
