YOUNGSTERS at Edge End High School in Nelson were presented with certificates for their chess skills by the Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Colin Waite.
Year seven pupils Kasim Mahmood, Anthony Dickson and Nicholas England all competed in the Walton Chess Competition at Nelson Town Hall and Kasim made it through to the semi-finals.
Anthony Dickson also received a trophy as the winner of the inter-school Edge End Chess Challenge Cup.
Ged Wharton, who runs the school's chess club, said: "It was quite special this year because there were three year seven children in the Walton Chess Competition and three out of the four finalists in our competition were year seven."
