LEIGH County Court is still open -- that is the message managers want to get across to Leigh people.

Despite an extensive publicity campaign launched by court staff to inform people the county court is still open on Walmesley Road, a number of customers have still got confused.

During the past year Steve Monaghan, Deputy Court Manager has written to the local press, posted notices in the Town Hall and Central Library and sent out maps showing the court's exact location with every notice of hearing.

But his efforts have not been completely successful.

He said: "Lately a number of our customers have attended Wigan Magistrates Court or County Court for their hearings in the mistaken belief that Leigh County Court is closed."

He added that a number of visitors have had a "terrible time" finding the court because they either believed it was closed or thought it was situated where the Magistrates Court is."
