A TEENAGE girl who was forced into an arranged marriage with a student in Bury has won her legal fight for an annulment.
Aneeka Sohrab, who was brought up in Glasgow, was only 16 when her parents insisted she marry 19-year-old Raja Sulman Khan.
She escaped from her in-laws' house and began a court action to get the marriage declared invalid. Now a judge has ruled the match was not legally binding because she had been put under "extreme distress".
The Court of Sessions in Edinburgh heard that Miss Sohrab had not been told about the wedding until a week before it was due to take place.
Reluctantly she agreed but shortly after the service she fled from Bury and went back to Glasgow.
In a written judgement Lord McEwan said Miss Sohrab's will was broken and her consent was not true consent.
The teenager has now gone back to college in Scotland and has taken up a part-time job.
