AT the tender age of ten, Daniel Beckett is already emerging as a formidable cross-country contender.
His athletic prowess has earned the Bury lad a clutch of 12 trophies and 19 medals and there's room on the shelf for many more accolades to come.
Daniel, who is a pupil at St Peter's Primary in Whitefield Road, has been running competitively for the past two years. He joined Bury Athletic Club before becoming a member of Sale Harriers.
Daniel took second place when he represented his school in the Bury Schools Cross-Country Championship. And in a qualifier for Greater Manchester Schools, he lifted gold.
He represented Bury in the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championship and finished in in eighth position. And he added a silver medal to his collection as Bury took the runner-up spot in the team section.
Daniel said: "Although I do cross country, I also run 800 metres and sprints. In the future, I'd like to concentrate on the 800 and the shorter distances."
