DETERMINED residents have resolved to stave off youth problems in the Woodhill area of Bury by banding together.
The newly-formed Woodhill Tenants' and Residents' Community Group announced its aims at a special meeting of Bury West Area Board.
Householders were also updated on police and council initiatives to prevent a recurrence of the problems which blighted the estate last November.
Car drivers and homes were pelted with rocks, with garden fences ripped down and reported threats of violence against residents.
The meeting, at Woodbank Primary School, was attended by up to 50 members of the public.
hey were briefed on the new community group's plans, which include a homewatch scheme and discussions with teenagers.
Among the measures discussed by police and council representatives was the creation of a new incident line that would allow future flare-ups and misdemeanours on the estate to be recorded centrally.
Replacement fencing for council properties and provision of youth activities in the area were also proposed. Following the meeting, community group chairman John Berry told the Bury Times: "The problems aren't as bad as they were but we do get some bad spates of trouble.
"What we are saying is enough is enough.
"We are determined to work together with the police and the council because we have had enough of these hooligans and vandals."
Bury West area co-ordinator John Slater said: "The concern is that, as we move into the summer months and lighter evenings, the problems may come back.
"We want to do all that we can to keep people involved."
