ADULT comic Roy "Chubby" Brown has admitted that he has throat cancer.

The Blackpool Central Pier stalwart has been suffering from a mystery illness since March that forced him to cancel many of his sell-out shows.

Roy said: "Until today I was not sure exactly what type of cancer I have, how it was to be treated and how long it would take to recover from.

"I have also been waiting for confirmation that it had not spread elsewhere. So until I knew the facts I didn't want it to be public knowledge.

"I have cancer of one of my vocal chords which was diagnosed in March of this year. The good news is that it is not life threatening and is treatable.

"Doctors expect me to make a full recovery by August this year. However, the treatment they are using is to cut the cancer out and this will mean that I will have to wait until mid-November at the latest before my throat is able to stand up to the rigours of a full tour."
