FORMER Bury FC favourite Ronnie Phillips has died at the age of 55.
The midfielder, who turned out for the Shakers during the Bob Smith era in the mid-seventies, ran an off-licence in his home town of Walkden.
Phillips spent most of his footballing career with Bolton Wanderers where he plied his trade from 1966 to 1975.
He moved to the Shakers from Chesterfield in June 1975 and played 68 games with four substitute appearances, scoring five goals.
After leaving Gigg Lane in the summer of 1977 he moved to Chester and retired from football following a spell with Barrow, going into the insurance business before taking over his off-licence.
