DARWEN boss Steve Wilkes felt their final match last night summed up their entire NWCL Division Two season.
Playing bottom club Castleton, Darwen raced into a 2-0 lead and were cruising at the break.
Matt Swailes scored his tenth goal of the season with a header from Denny Khan's cross on 10 minutes.
And then John Whittaker was upended in the area and Andy Walsh fired home the spot kick - his 11th goal of the campaign.
"Then is the second half, as has been happening in recent weeks, we came out with a poor attitude," said Wilkes.
On 55 minutes keeper Lee Purvis, who was struggling with injury, was caught out and Baxenden got Castleton back into it.
Darwen should then have made it 3-1 Whittaker choosing to shoot instead of pass to the unmarked Paul Baker and Swailes.
From this Castleton broke and Baxenden made it two and he could have scored a late winner but Purvis saved well.
"That match just summed up our season," moaned Wilkes. "There will be changes in the summer."
