BACUP boss Brent Peters came out of retirement last night as he struggled to get a side together for the NWCL Division Two encounter.
Several players were unavailable and there was a number of injuries forcing Peters to field himself at full-back and use five of Bacup's successful Under 16 side - four of whom hadn't played at this level before.
But his side battled well - even though Peters had to bring himself off to stop the referee sending him off before half-time!
"I always play aggressively and it was just backchat between me and their player. We both got booked but it did continue after that so I thought I better bring myself off just in case!" said Peters, who hadn't played competitively for a year.
"It was all hands to the pump and I had to play midfielder Paul Waine and Damon Gledhill out of position at the back."
Youngster Adam Warwick had a good chance in the opening five minutes but he passed when he should have shot while Paul Fildes hit the post. However Bacup still went in trailing 1-0 at the interval.
Peters changed it around after the break, pushing Nicky Taylor up front with Fildes and they got their just rewards. A long ball from Gledhill found Fildes who got past the last defender, saw the keeper hesitate and fired into the net on 67 minutes.
It was the former Colne striker's sixth goal for Bacup - and 21st for the season.
"We deserved a point and perhaps more," added Peters whose side face bottom club Castleton at home tomorrow.
