A NEW streamlined vehicle has been unveiled by police in the Ribble Valley in a bid to transport offenders more safely and efficiently.
The Peugeot van is the first of its kind in Lancashire and has a special secure area in the rear for people detained by officers.
Insp Bob Ford from Clitheroe police said: "The van is part of an experiment to save public money as our Land Rovers are too expensive to run whilst the Transit van is too clumsy for rural areas. We have taken health and safety advice on how the van should be designed."
He added: "It is hoped that the van will enable us to carry out our responsibilities when transporting detainees as well as improving the safety of our officers."
