A RAMSBOTTOM firefighter who died trying to save a drowning teenager is to receive a posthumous Queen's Commendation for Bravery.
Sub-officer Paul Metcalf was aged 40 when he died trying to rescue Reyaz Ali, a student at Darul-Uloom Islamic College in Holcombe Brook, from Simon's Lodge in Redisher Woods in 1999. The teenager also died.
The award and a certificate and emblem will be presented by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester to a member of his family.
Mr Metcalf has already been decorated with a Chief Constable's Commendation, Citation of Merit and Royal Humane Society Award for his bravery.
His twin brother, Michael, received both posthumous awards on his behalf.
