A YOUTH, aged 16, from Radcliffe has been jailed for three years at Liverpool Crown Court, after being found guilty of the manslaughter of a 68-year-old man, also from Radcliffe.
John Eric Conwell, known as Eric, was walking home from a bowling club function with a friend along Water Street in Radcliffe on Saturday, April 28, when he was battered unconscious and sustained a serious head injury.
A retired chargehand, Mr Conwell, of Normandy Crescent, never recovered from his injuries and died at Chestnut Court Nursing Home, Newton Street, Bury, on September 17.
Detective Inspector Jane Antrobus, of Whitefield CID, said: "Mr Conwell's family have fully supported the investigation and have remained dignified throughout their ordeal.
"No matter what sentence was imposed today, it cannot bring back their loved one, but at least the family can now feel that justice has been done."
