THE Clarets youth team are in action this afternoon as they looked to maintain their recent good form.
This afternoon's game against Grimsby Town follows the latest victory which came last Wednesday with a comfortable 2-0 win over York City at Gawthorpe.
That game featured a couple of trialists from overseas and also a return to action for Robert Grimes.
The first year scholar has just recovered from a bad ankle injury which was suffered against Preston North End at the start of September and he filled in well down the right flank.
The starting team included 16-year-old Australian Ryan Townsend who lined up alongside skipper Earl Davis in the centre of the defence.
Townsend, who has been training with Sheffield Wednesday, dealt with everything thrown his way and showed good composure for one of the youngest players on the pitch.
In the second half Burnley brought on another trialist in the shape of Karim Allen, a young midfielder from Turkey who has represented Galatasaray and Anderlecht at junior level but is now living in England.
Terry Pashley's young Clarets were the better side and the points were settled by two strikes in the first half of a match with few chances.
On 18 minutes Mark Rasmussen worked his way into the area from the right flank, beating two men before planting a left foot shot into the net via a deflection.
York tried to get back in the game and they had the Clarets' defence on the back foot several times with long balls over the top, but James Salisbury was never really tested.
The keeper turned provider for the second goal, when his long clearance was latched onto by Paul Barrett, who outpaced the defence, taking the ball in his stride, before finishing well.
The Clarets forced numerous corners but the nearest they came to a third goal was when Matt O'Neill's flicked header from a corner glanced across the goal, but the danger was cleared.
At the other end, Salisbury comfortably dealt with anything that came his way.
Burnley: Salisbury, Leeson, Scott, Pilkington, Davis, Townsend, Rasmussen (Grimes, 71) Waine (Allen, 69) Hindle, Barrett, O'Neill.
