BURY Croquet Club's Open Day in aid of Bury Hospice rasied £200.
The Peelers drew 3-3 in their opening match of the season at Bowdon, playing the St Mary's team.
In the doubles Ken and Margaret Anderton were up against a pair of experienced middle-rankers, and at the time limit were just three points behind. Geoff and Barbara Young could not retain control against a pair which included one very strong player, and were four points adrift at time.
In the singles Ken made short work of his game against the Bowdon number one player, using his handicap turns to excellent effect. The other three games all went to time, the pair being pretty closely matched and the handicap turns few. Barbara ended six points ahead of her opponent, and Geoff six behind his. Margaret had the tightest game, scoring the clinching point in the Time turn to avoid an extra time situation. The result was a draw, three games apiece.
