NOT only will the clampdown on 'speeders' fail to reduce accidents -- I suggest it will increase them.
For having 'sped' at 35mph on a wide, empty road, I now tootle along at 28mph and am overtaken time after time by cars which cause oncoming traffic to take evasive action. What sense does this make?
Likewise when past Samlesbury Hall doing 48mph the same thing happens -- car after car overtaking at speed, making a very dangerous road even worse.
Had I seen the police hiding behind a parked-up carpet lorry the other day on Stanscliffe Street, Blackburn, sooner, I would have done what the majority of drivers do -- slow down at the camera then speed up again when past.
Can I advise the police driver who travels to Blackburn from Preston at approximately 8am that the speed limit from the traffic lights at Yew Tree/Preston New Road into Blackburn is 30mph. Was he dashing to an incident or trying to cause one?
SAM SPENCE, Ribblesdale Place, Blackburn.
