REGARDING the letter about the downfall of Roberts' House in Leyland (Citizen, April 18). I too think it is sad to see this very useful building, which was in good condition, brought to the ground in a heap of rubble.
As I am aware there are plans to build houses in its place.
Let's hope they are affordable and for people at the low end of the financial ladder.
However, while I agree that the elderly residents of Roberts' House must have gone through a tough time when they were uprooted it is my understanding that they were re-housed into similar or better accommodation.
They were paid around £1,000 for the inconvenience as well as their moving costs paid.
It is hardly the same situation facing pensioners living in Lancashire's social services care homes who could be turfed out with nowhere to go.
This situation is causing the elderly residents real grief and heartache and deserves all our support.
