CLAYTON tough guy Garry Wilkinson finished third in the 24 mile long Three Peaks Fell Race on Sunday in conditions which matched the worst ever seen.
With gale force winds at 70mph in places, Garry completed the classic course over Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in 3:22:04 to finish third behind Borrowdale pair Simon Booth and Andy Schofield.
That gave him his highest finish and the trophy for first Lancastrian and it also helped Clayton Harriers to sweep the board in the men's team standings.
Paul Thompson finished strongly to finish fourth, and with distance specialist Andy Orr 11th they deprived Borrowdale of team honours.
The club had the first two finishers in the over 50s as Peter McWade crossed the line in 3:44 with Kieran Carr home in 3:02. Carr found staying warm a great problem, but kept going to overtake the second over 50 only two fields from the end.
The over 40s and the over 50s were the winning teams while Dave Scott closed in on the all time record as he completed his 35th Peaks Race on his 59th birthday.
Brian Leathley may have set a new record as the oldest finisher at the age of 70.
