THE closed Bury-bound Metrolink platform at Manchester's Victoria Station will re-open in time for this summer's Commonwealth Games.
The platform has been shut since last June when water leaking from the roof rendered it unsafe.
Railtrack has now begun repair work on the roof which is scheduled for completion in time for the Games.
The news has been welcomed by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority.
Authority chairman, Councillor Roger Jones said: "Metrolink passengers have had to put up with the closure of this platform for some time now and this has been of great concern to the authority.
"Victoria Station and Metrolink are going to be used by thousands of people from all over the world during the Commonwealth Games, so it is extremely important that these works are finished on time."
