YOUNG Kyle Hendry sent a special message to his mum after scoring two cup final goals as she battled to overcome a life-threatening blood disorder.
The ten-year-old son of former Rovers star Colin Hendry and his wife Denise ripped off his top and revealed a T-shirt with 'Love U Mum' on the front and 'Please Get Well Soon Mum' on the back.
His actions, captured on video, came during an Under 11s match at Blackpool FC's Bloomfield Road ground, just down the road from his home in Lytham.
For the last three weeks dad Colin, the former Scotland captain, who used to live with his family in Ribchester Road, Wilpshire, has been keeping a daily vigil at the hospital bedside of his 35-year-old wife.
She was admitted to the Royal Preston Hospital intensive care unit in Lancashire on Friday, April 12, suffering from blood poisoning following a cosmetic surgery operation at the Broughton Park Private Hospital, also in Preston, earlier that week.
Colin, helped by members of his family, has been looking after the couple's four children.
For the first time since his wife's illness, he took time off from his hospital vigil to watch his son play for Lytham St Anne's YMCA Under 11s team in their final.
Kyle scored twice from the penalty spot, once during normal time, calmly firing into the top corner to the obvious delight of his father.
The game was level 1-1 after extra time and though Kyle scored again in the penalty shoot-out which followed, the YMCA side were defeated, denied a double after clinching the league title the previous week.
One of the YMCA staff said: "We had no idea that Kyle was wearing a T-shirt with a message on it for his mum.
"He must have known there was going to be an official video of the game and wrote the message himself.
"I don't think he has been to the hospital but he desperately wanted his mum to see him score and get his messages.
"He knew if he scored the camera would pan on to him like Match of the Day. He must have been desperate to hit the back of the net.
"We are just hoping that she will be able to watch it.
"It was a lovely gesture from a caring 11-year-old.
There were only a few of us on the ground who could have known what the message really meant and the feelings behind it."
Yesterday Mrs Hendry remained stable but very poorly in hospital.
