CAN I inform Carole McLean (Your Letters, April 23) that I am equally disappointed with the jobsworth council refuse department. Carole has done more than most to help safeguard the community by wrapping her family's rubbish.

So on behalf of Carole, and many other ratepayers, can I ask the refuse department to tell readers why they do not take rubbish in bags placed within the bins provided? Also, why, when people do not have enough room in their bin and put their rubbish in plastic bags at the side, do the refuse collectors just leave them?

It's scandalous. Can someone also tell me why a refuse collection department leaves a trail of rubbish behind? Is it a European rule, like making sure bananas are sold straight and not with a curve? The refuse department will no doubt have an answer, but to us mere Radcliffians it's a case of trying to do the right thing and keep our community tidy, only to come up against rules which effectively prevent the refuse department from collecting all the rubbish!

And then they feel bemused when nobody leaves them a Christmas tip.

I say bring back the Cheese and the Egg and the Thunderbird Three; they were proper lads.
