RIBBLE Valley MP Nigel Evans has hit out at the government for failing to tackle vehicle crime in East Lancashire.
The Tory said he was disappointed over the government's record on vehicle crime.
He said: "I have received these latest figures with dismay."
The figures show aggravated vehicle taking has risen year on year since 1997, with the latest statistics showing an increase from 220 cases in 1997 to 318 in 2001.
Mr Evans continued: "The government has produced scheme after scheme to try and con people into thinking it was tackling crime." Even after each scheme has been announced several times over, none have had any effect on crime in Lancashire and these figures prove that the government has totally failed the people of Lancashire."
Mr Evans has written to Home Secretary David Blunkett highlighting the figures and demanding immediate action to reverse the upward trend of vehicle crime in Lancashire.
