EAST Lancashire folk are being urged to help the Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team climb Everest with a difference all in the name of charity.
The rescue team, along with volunteers and members of the public, will take it in turns to climb routes specially arranged by West View Leisure Centre in Preston to equal Everest's height of 29,028ft.
Proceeds will go to the NSPCC and to the Bowland Mountain Rescue Team, which is almost entirely funded by public donations.
Now the team is seeking help to make the event a success.
Alan Binstead, press officer for the team, said: "If you can climb a ladder, you will be able to successfully climb the routes, and help us scale 29,028ft.
"What better challenge could you have than to climb part of Everest? The leisure centre and the rescue team will provide all the equipment, training and supervision, and you only need to get a sponsor form, or simply pay £5 on the day.
"All the ropes needed have been donated by leading equipment and training companies such as Edelrid UK, Lars Communications and Xi Training. You will also have a fun, family day, as well as helping to support your local community."
