THE Clarets may have finished one goal short of the play-offs at the end of the season but there was no shortage of goals at Turf Moor on Wednesday afternoon.
Following a season of hard work off the pitch, the club's staff enjoyed their annual end-of-season run-out on the hallowed turf with the match ending up in a rugby score - 12-8.
The two sides were captained by former Clarets Gerry Harrison and Vince Overson, playing their second games in the space of 24 hours, following Tuesday's Football Aid match.
Overson led his side to victory thanks in the main to the shooting skills of the club's Ethnic Minorities Officer Dino Maamria.
He scored the majority of his team's goals but such was the number that people were beginning to lose track by the end of the game.
The pitch, which has come in for criticism from manager Stan Ternent at times this season, is now taking a well-earned rest having been the venue for a number of finals since the club's premature end to the season.
The youth team played their last home game of the season on it in midweek, a 3-2 win over Grimsby Town, and now the groundstaff can try and ensure that it is in the best possible condition for the start of the next campaign.
