ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman said that the "result was better than the performance" after his side beat Marine 3-1 last night in their last Unibond League Premier Division match of the season.

Gary Williams opened the scoring in the first half and Jonathan Smith went on to increase the lead after 65 minutes.

However Marine pulled a goal back and immediately and the Reds were put under the cosh by the visitors.

But Paul Mullin made the points safe in the final minute by making it 3-1.

"It was a strange performance," said Coleman. "It really wasn't like us at all."

Now, after Stanley's double cup success, Coleman is looking forward to well-earned rest this summer where he will be looking to rebuild his side for an all-out assault on reaching the Conference next season.

But first is the little matter of Monday's trip to Burton Albion in the annual Title winners v Cup winners clash against Nigel Clough's side.

BACUP BOROUGH enjoyed the better of their derby clash with NWCL Second Division champions STAND, winning 5-2 at Ewood Bridge in what could have been Stand manager's Nick Davis' last game.

The club have failed to gain promotion due to their facilities and David ended on a low as his side were well beaten by Brent Peters' men.

Bacup took the lead through Paul Fildes, and then Stuart Farnell made it 2-0 on 18 minutes.

Mark Rawstron gave Bacup a 3-0 interval lead before a Paul Waine own goal on 50 minutes reduced the arrears to 3-1.

Lee Wilkinson latched on to a Chris Denham cross to make it 3-2 and Bacup were put under pressure, but hit back with goals from Farnell and Fildes to take the honours.

PADIHAM finished the season in style last night with a 6-0 drubbing of Westhoughton side Daisy Hill.

Ian Pilkington took his tally for the season to 27 as he helped himself to four goals in the Storks biggest win of the season.

Daisy Hill found themselves up against it as early as the second minute when an handling offence led to a penalty which Pilkington converted.

Ian Whittaker rounded Daisy Hill keeper Daniel Morton in the 11th minute to make it 2-0 and then further strikes by Pilkington in the 27th and 35th minutes not only completed his hat-tricks but gave the Storks a 4-0 half-time lead.

Ian Pilkington, 57 minutes, and Ian Whittaker, 62 minutes, completed the scoring in the second half as Padiham cruised to their 6-0 North West Counties Football League Division Two victory to move above Chadderton and Colne in the final league table.

ROSSENDALE United lost out in a cracker in Unibond League Division One, losing 4-3 at home to Trafford.
