AN 89-year-old pensioner suffered facial injuries and bruising after being attacked by robbers in her home.
The woman suffered grazes to her face and bruised arms after her struggle callous thieves who pretended to be water board workers.
Luckily she didn't need hospital treatment after her early Thursday afternoon ordeal at her home in Howe Bridge, Atherton.
The woman opened the front door of her Leigh Road home to a man claiming to be from the water
board investigating a burst main. Once he was inside the house, a second man knocked at the door and said he
was with the first man.
The lady was reluctant to allow the second man inside but the first conman grabbed hold of her
and covered her mouth, while the second man entered. The victim was then taken into the living room and pushed into a chair while the first man searched the house for money.
They left with a quantity of cash but threatened they would return if she called the police.
The first man is described as white, 5'8 to 6'0, 20 to 30 years old, broadly built with short brown hair.
His accomplice was also white and of a similar age, 5'6 in height, slimly built with short light brown hair.
