A BOWLS pairs competition was held at Park Road on Bank Holiday Monday. The Cliviger Cup, sponsored by Mount Zion Church, drew an entry of 11 teams.
A fiercely-fought final, in which Jed and Pete Bolton played Brian Nicholls and Jimmy Dand, ended in a win for Jed and Pete, with a score of 21-19. They were presented with winners medals and hold the cup for one year, as it is hoped to make the event an annual one.
The young player's trophy was won by Sarah Green and Laura Nicholls.
Players and spectators showed their appreciation of the work done by Alan Scholes in organising the competition.

Mount Zion holds regular kids clubs every Friday, 6.30-7.30pm. Family services are each Sunday at 10.45am and 6pm.
THE Parish Council recently obtained details of the Lancashire small sites regeneration programme, under which up to £30,000 is available for improving derelict or under-used areas of land, for the benefit of the local community.
Two possible areas in the parish were identified -- a play area at the rear of Mount Zion and a piece of land bordering the A646 near the junction with Bacup Road.
CLIVIGER Guides meet on Thursday evenings in Church House, adjacent to St John's Church. In recent weeks, activities have included cooking on an open fire, and a treasure hunt around Red Lees and Hurstwood.
Over the coming weeks the Guides will be planning a party, followed by a sleepover in Church House for June 21 and final preparations will be made for a visit to London, June 3-5.
THE new code of conduct for parish councillors came into effect on May 3 and all councillors must sign an undertaking to observe the code within two months of this date.
They must also register details of financial and other interests within 28 days of adoption of the code.
