THE Mayors and Mayoresses of 29 years have been hung in the corridors of power.
A new gallery of first citizens, elected since 1974 when the Metro was created, has been unveiled in Wigan Town Hall.
The idea to fill the blank walls originated from the Mayor's attendant, Harold Lowe, and was taken up by former council deputy leader Tom Sherratt.
He said: "In Leigh Town Hall they have pictures of all the old Leigh Mayors, and this is quite common in other town halls as well."
A dozen former Mayor and Mayoresses were at the ceremony.
