A BOXING coach is appealing to fans to recollect the life and times of Golborne's 1930s world flyweight champion, Peter Kane.
Brian Hughes, chief coach of the Collyhurst and Moston Lads' Club, has linked up with Golborne's Jimmy Rogers, a keen fan and friend of the former blacksmith, to write a book on his life and career.
All money raised will go towards the club, which Brian has kept going for 40 years without government funding, grants or handouts.
He said: "Any stories about Peter Kane would be much appreciated. I have completed 80 per cent of the book, but I need to tell readers about what kind of person Peter was. Any little yarns will help. I would particularly like to find out about his three wives and their three children.
"To do a true biography I need to write about Peter as he was, so if readers can dig into their memory boxes and help pay tribute to a great boxer, I'd be very grateful."
Anyone who can help can him at 41, Fold Green, Chadderton, 0l9 9DX or ring him on 0161 620 2916.
