BANDS from across the borough will be singing from the same songsheet to help troubled Bury FC.

The event, a Gig for Gigg, will help showcase up-and-coming local talent, as well as raise vital cash for the Save our Shakers campaign.

Organiser Ian Gray said: "It is our local club and it will be a huge loss if it closes, not only for the fans, but it would also leave a big hole in the community.

"There has been talk about who is going to take over but, especially with the ITV problems, we need to raise as much money and support for the club as we can.

"People who are not Bury supporters feel strongly about what has happened, and we need everyone to come together to help the club.

"And with other clubs getting rid of staff, we need to do this now to make sure Bury are here for next season and for years to come."

Bury Times music page editor Mike Crutchley said: "I have come across a lot of talent in the area and some fantastic acts have offered their help.

"It should be an excellent night that will bring the community together to help the club."

Bury Met arts centre has agreed to provide the venue free of charge, and volunteers have also come forward to help with the event, at 7pm on Thursday, May 23.

Tickets are £5 and are available from the Met box office on 761 2216.

The bands have also agreed to waive their fees to support the Shakers.

There will also be special guests and a prize draw on the night.
